The Caesar salad was created in Tijuana, Mexico, in 1924 by Italian immigrant Caesar Cardini. Cardini was running a small restaurant and, according to legend, had run out of fresh ingredients. He threw together a salad with romaine lettuce, croutons, Parmesan cheese, olive oil, and a raw egg yolk dressing. The salad was an immediate hit, and it has since become one of the most popular salads in the world.
