Chai Spiced Almond Butter
This alluring spread has a multifaceted flavor that's warm, not overly sweet, and has a delicious depth of spice. We start with raw almonds that are lightly toasted to bring out their nutty flavor and make their skins easier to remove. We're not looking for dark roasted almonds, so avoid over-toasting and keep a close eye on them during their time in the oven. Once the almonds have cooled, we throw them in the food processor along with some coconut oil and an assortment of spices that are inspired by the classic Indian tea, chai. We blend until creamy and smooth, then taste and add honey or maple syrup to sweeten if necessary. The result is a complex and flavorful almond butter that's perfect for spreading on toast, fruit, or anything else you can think of.
Our journey to create the perfect chai spiced almond butter began with a love for both chai tea and almond butter. We wanted to combine the warm, inviting flavors of chai with the creamy texture and health benefits of almond butter. After many experiments in our test kitchen, we finally found the perfect balance of spices and sweetness. We start with raw almonds, which we toast lightly to bring out their nutty flavor. Then, we add coconut oil, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, black pepper, and sea salt to the food processor. We blend until smooth and creamy, and then taste and add honey or maple syrup to sweeten if necessary. The result is a delicious and versatile spread that can be used on toast, fruit, or as a dip.
