The history of the breakfast casserole is a long and winding one, dating back to the early days of American cooking. In the early 19th century, settlers in the Midwest and South began to combine eggs, milk, and meat into a single dish that could be cooked in a skillet or Dutch oven. This dish was often served for breakfast or brunch, and it quickly became a staple of American cuisine. Over time, the breakfast casserole evolved to include a variety of other ingredients, such as vegetables, cheese, and bread. Today, there are countless variations on the breakfast casserole, but the basic concept remains the same: a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for feeding a crowd.
