Baklava is a classic dessert that has been enjoyed for centuries throughout the Middle East and Mediterranean region. It is made with layers of filo pastry, which is a thin, unleavened dough that is brushed with melted butter. The filling is typically made with nuts, such as walnuts, almonds, or pistachios, and sweetened with honey or syrup. Orange and date baklava is a variation on the classic recipe that adds the bright, citrusy flavor of oranges and the chewy sweetness of dates. The result is a dessert that is both delicious and visually appealing.

Why It Works
  • The filo pastry is brushed with melted butter before being baked, which helps to create a crispy and flaky texture.
  • The filling is made with a combination of nuts, dates, and spices, which provides a variety of flavors and textures.
  • The orange zest and juice add a bright, citrusy flavor to the filling.
  • The honey or syrup adds sweetness and helps to bind the filling together.
  • The baklava is baked until golden brown, which gives it a slightly caramelized flavor.
