The lobster roll is a relatively recent invention, dating back to the early 20th century. It is thought to have originated in Maine, where lobster was plentiful and inexpensive. The first lobster rolls were simply boiled lobster meat served on a hot dog bun. Over time, the recipe evolved to include mayonnaise, celery, and other ingredients. Today, there are many different variations on the lobster roll, but the basic ingredients remain the same: lobster meat, mayonnaise, and a bun.
