Granola was first invented in the late 1800s by Dr. James Caleb Jackson, a Seventh-day Adventist physician. Jackson was looking for a healthy, vegetarian breakfast cereal that his patients could eat. He experimented with different combinations of oats, nuts, and fruits, and eventually came up with a recipe that he called "granula." Granola quickly became popular among Adventists, and it soon spread to other parts of the United States. Today, granola is a popular breakfast food all over the world.
