The history of steak is long and storied, dating back to the days of cavemen. But the art of pan-searing steak is a relatively new development, one that has only become popular in recent decades. It was in the early 1900s that chefs began to experiment with searing steak in a hot skillet, and it quickly became a favorite technique. This was due in part to the fact that pan-searing creates a delicious crust on the outside of the steak while leaving the interior juicy and tender.
