Halloumi is a Cypriot cheese that is made from a mixture of sheep's and goat's milk. It is a semi-hard cheese with a high melting point, which makes it perfect for frying or grilling. This recipe for crispy halloumi sticks is inspired by the traditional Greek dish of saganaki, which is fried halloumi cheese served with lemon wedges. We've added a twist to the classic recipe by serving the halloumi sticks with a creamy tzatziki sauce. Tzatziki is a yogurt-based sauce that is made with cucumber, garlic, dill, and olive oil. It is a refreshing and flavorful sauce that pairs perfectly with the crispy halloumi sticks.

Why It Works
  • The cornstarch coating on the halloumi sticks helps to create a crispy exterior while the cheese remains soft and gooey on the inside.
  • Baking the halloumi sticks in a hot oven ensures that they cook evenly and develop a golden-brown crust.
  • The tzatziki sauce is made with Greek yogurt, which is a thick and creamy yogurt that adds a tangy flavor to the sauce.
  • The cucumber, garlic, and dill in the tzatziki sauce add a refreshing and flavorful contrast to the crispy halloumi sticks.
