Ingredients
  • 1 cup rolled oats, gluten-free if needed
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 cups peeled and sliced tart apples
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, pecans, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Use your fingers to work the butter into the oat mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Press one-third of the oat mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch (23 cm) pie plate.
  5. Spread the apples over the oat mixture.
  6. Drizzle with caramel sauce.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the apples.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  9. Serve warm with additional caramel sauce, if desired.
